21 Reasons to Contact Your Search Engine Rep

Posted: August 24, 2009
A couple common questions are:
- Do I need a search engine rep?
- What can the rep actually do for me?
Here’s a few (this list could be much longer) of the top reasons to use a search engine rep:
- Give you a phone number so you can easily talk to a person at Google (adCenter & YSM are better at this than Google)
- Help with troubleshooting day-to-day items that always seem to come out of nowhere
- Share industry data with you
- Explanations and assistance with new features
- Getting trademarked keywords approved
- Helping to remove infringing trademark ads
- Handle billing issues
- Assist with various invoicing options
- Receive invites to beta programs
- Expediting Ad approvals
- Reclassifying your site as non-adult
- Help in uploading large accounts
- Account optimization
- Ideas on improving quality score
- Introductions to other product teams
- Handle click fraud disputes
- Advocate for your company with the quality control team
- Advocate for your company in other special opportunities
- Invites to special search engine events
- Add you to various mailing lists. For instance, Google has a lot of excellent newsletters that you have to be put on to receive; there is no open subscribe section – its really annoying).
- Invites to Google Zeitgeist (the hardest invite to come by – good luck), Microsoft Search Summit, and other exclusive events

Got something to say?

Hey Brad– great list here. I think its really important for PPC-ers to realize that reaching out to your rep should be a common and streamlined process through-out campaign creation and management. Combining 10 & 13, I find myself using them most when working on seasonal or promotional initiatives. I can both get their input on optimization tips as well as expedite approval so I get those tests up & running.
