Google AdWords Split Testing Login Pages?
Posted: August 7, 2006
Upon visiting Google today, I realized that the login page is completely different. Then I took at look at the URL string: https://adwords.google.com/select/Login4 and it appears they are playing with at least four different login screens. Does Google need to increase their conversion rate for new visitors?

I hunted around a bit looking at /Login4, /Login3, etc and they all redirected to /Login4.
Usually, when one starts numbering pages, they have multiple versions. Google has had the same login page for quite some time now. So, my initial guess is that they are looking at the number of people who visit the page and leave vs. visit the page and login vs visit the page and sign-up.
Of course, if one logs into their system, they’re already a user, therefore Google just needs to make it quick and painless to log into the system.
It’s the visits that hunt around for information and don’t sign up or login that would cause one to redesign the page.
It is a much more friendly page in terms of getting their message out and providing a quick overview of the AdWords system.
We’ll have to wait and see if this is part of a larger test, or if Google is split testing their own conversion rate.
