Moving to a new webhost

Posted: October 21, 2005

Matt provides a great article on how to move a server to a new webhost.

I was talking to Matt at one of the conferences about ranking a website. We were discussing that how can he really understand SEO and ranking a website if he didn’t do it himself. Made sense. He told me that he had a host he was paying for, but the host had been bought, servers moved, etc, and that he couldn’t even track down the host to cancel his account.

I found it quite a amusing that Matt, a Google engineer, and access to a plethora of data couldn’t even locate his own host, and let him know how hard it must be for everyone else who doesn’t have his data access.

I don’t know if he’s trying to rank a site yet, as to be a real try, he couldn’t use his name. He does have a blog, but since he’s a star in the SEO community, of course, he quickly drew a lot of links (a pr7 site in the first PR update since his blog was launched).

Anyway, this is a great article on switching webhosts.
