Pay Per Click Tracking - Java Script

Posted: September 30, 2004

Java script is a common method of tracking. Most users have java script enabled on their computers (it is often enabled by default on many browsers). However, some do not.

If java scripts are not enabled on the machine, then the tracking chain is broken right from the beginning.

Java script tracking can also interfere with other tracking systems already in place on your website which can cause one or both to not work properly.

The biggest problem with java script tracking is that only the first visit is counted. Therefore, people who return at a later date and purchase from your website will not be counted as purchase from your pay per click advertising.

The advantage of java script tracking is that many variables can be passed through to the tracking software, and more data is generally gathered than image tracking.

The other advantage is that this piece of tracking code is placed right after the tag of a web page, making it the first piece of code to load on the browser which leads to more accurate tracking for people who have java enabled.

Tracking Software

There are many tracking software packages available. Some are run on 3rd party machines, and other’s on your own server. Find a tracking software solution that fits you on our Tracking Software Review page.
